De-Clutter Your Home
Okay, this may have been a no-brainer when it comes to staging your home to have photos taken, but when we say de-clutter, we mean everything; the magnets on your refrigerator, junk in your closets you never use or wear, that pile of paper files with junk mail and old bills, old electronics and excess wires, everything! You’ll also want to put away any personal photos. When buyers look at images of your home, they want to imagine it as their own. So, seeing another person’s imprint on the house can take away that illusion. De-cluttering and cleaning everything out will also help when you eventually move out.
Deal with the Bathroom
The Bathrooms are some of the more personal rooms in the house, you want them to feel clean and up to date when buyers are viewing it. The staging consultants specifically brought up bathrooms for this very reason. First and foremost you’ll want fresh and clean towels hanging, and you might even want a new clean shower curtain to project an updated feel and style. Consultants also recommend redoing the grout around the tub and shower, painting or replacing cabinets, or replacing the tile for a good update. While you might not have to completely redo your bathroom, updating some of the fixtures and decor can improve your price significantly.

New bedding projects cleanliness in pictures as well as updated style. Don’t forget to de-clutter well in the bedroom as well and remove any personal photos here. You’ll want to not only clean out your bedroom closet, but also fold and hang everything neatly so it looks spacious in photos. Make sure your bedroom closet isn’t overly stuffed in the photographs.
Trays are the it accessory right now in design. Everything looks better on a tray. Whether it be on your kitchen island, bathroom vanity, or your basement bar use a tray for counter top design to help make your home look in-style in photos and in-person showings. Another fun accessory that can provide a pop of color is new throw pillows. You don’t want old sagging pillows which can give a room a dated look. You’ll want new plush throw pillows, and the great thing is they fit in a lot of different rooms. Add them to the family room couch, on your outdoor furniture, or the master bedroom for a color accent. These small touches can make a big different in home photos and showings as well.
One other important tip to consider is to send your pets to a kennel or a friend’s house during in-person showings. Dogs and cats can cause allergies and general disturbance to showings, so it’s best to send them somewhere else for the time being.
