Between October 26th and October 28th, the National American History Museum is holding the Smithsonian Food History Weekend. This event will take place throughout the National Mall. For example, on the evening of the 27th, restaurants throughout the greater DC metro region will feature a special dish on their menus inspired by Julia Childs. On the 28th, from 10am to 5:30pm, there will be a festival throughout the American History Museum with hands-on learning activities, live demonstrations, talks, stories, and so much more. The best part is that the entire event is completely free! For more about the schedule for the weekend check out the museum’s website: http://americanhistory.si.edu
The Maryland Renaissance festival runs every year from August to October. This year the last day of the festival will be October 22nd, so if you haven’t already visited, go before October ends! Located at Anne Arundel Fairground, the “Renn-Fest” is a great way to kick off autumn. There are over 40 food vendors and 130 craft shops to explore. There are live shows, and tons of activities for little kids. Don’t forget to catch all of the characters walking around through the festival wearing the traditional armor, dresses, and crowns like the knights, kings, and queens of yore.
